All rights reserved “An Arrow Through History” is an exhibition consisting of three distinct presentations, all of which are on view at the Gagosian Gallery in New York from May 11 to June 25, 2022. One of these presentations, visible on the sixth floor of 980 Madison Avenue, is devoted to several paintings in which Murakami draws inspiration from a fish motif on a Qinghua porcelain vase dating from the Yuan dynasty (c. 1279–1368), as well as, the gallery notes, “Murakami’s childhood memories of riverside journeys with his father, during which he observed anglers fishing for carp.” Memories of the past are also present on the fifth floor, “devoted to paintings and sculptures related to the artist’s Murakami.Flowers NFT project (2021–22). Physical manifestations of the artist’s newest series of iconic flowers in multiple permutations of colors and features, they combine his Superflat aesthetic with a style that evokes nostalgia for the pixelated graphics of 1980s video games, especially those played on the Nintendo Famicon console.” The big theme of the moment in the art world -the ubiquitous NFTs- are also present at 976 Madison Avenue. According to the gallery, this presentation includes “paintings and sculptures based on the CloneX NFT initiative (2021), which he developed in collaboration with RTFKT Studios. CloneX is a series of NFT avatars conceived as three-dimensional figures bearing his distinctive motifs.” The gallery has also announced that it will accept cryptocurrency as a form of payment. In addition to this exhibition at Gagosian Gallery, Takashi Murakami will also be the subject of a future exhibition at The Broad, Los Angeles. “Stepping on the Tail of a Rainbow” will include 18 works by the artist, as well as immersive environments developed with the artist and his studio, Kaikai Kiki Co., Ltd.. The exhibition will open on 25 May. #2022 #GagosianGallery #theartwolf
